Astilbe - Key Largo
The Astilbe ‘Key Largo’, 'Astilbe simplicifolia', is a colorful feathery flower with bright shell pink blooms and shiny deep green foliage. ‘Key Largo’ is known to produce twice as many flowers than other types of Astilbe. The flowers contrast wonderfully with the dark green glossy foliage. Astilbe ‘Key Largo’ blooms in mid summer and is 16-20” tall and a plant width of 18-24”. Do not allow Astilbe ‘Key Largo’ to dry out. Key largo is most successfully grown in a shady area but can tolerate some morning sun. A moist, well-drained area is key for this plant. In order to keep Astilbe looking good for the next year, do not cut it back in the winter, (the old foliage helps protect the plant from winter damage), but prune in early spring. Astilbe can be used as cut flowers, perennial borders or shade gardens with Hosta’s and Ferns. Astilbe is considered to be deer resistant and will attract hummingbirds. ... more info
Penstemon - Prairie Splendor The Penstemon ‘Prairie Splendor’ has large flowers of white, rose, lavender and pink with narrow, lance-shaped evergreen foliage. The flowers only last for about four weeks in midsummer but defiantly don’t want to be missed. ‘Prairie Splendor’ has a plant height of 26” and a spread of 18-24”. It is best to plant Penstemon in a full sun location, having a moist, well-drained area. Being drought tolerant, ‘Prairie Splendor’ looks great in a perennial border, in a naturalized setting, in rock gardens or for cuttings. Hummingbirds and butterflies love this perennial, not to mention being deer resistant. |
