Basil - Napoletano

The Basil Napoletano, 'Ocimum basilicum', is one of the best basils available for eating fresh. The tender leaves are mild, sweet and tender in flavor. There is nothing like the smell of basil because the smell of basil is the smell of summer. There is no more useful herb and it is very fragrant. It is a good all "around basil" and it has very few pests. Basil is used in so many foods, it is hard to mention them all. It is used in Italian foods and pesto and pasta sauces. Fresh basil makes a nice tea, an excellent vinegar, and tastes great fresh with fish, poultry, rice, mild vegetables, eggplant and many others. Plant 1 to 2 weeks after the last average frost date. Place the Basil seeds in well drained soil with lots of organic matter. ... additional information

Sweet Pea - Pastel Sunset The Sweet Pea Pastel Sunset, 'Lathyrus odoratus', is an artist's palette of soft shades, including cream, almond, pink, lavender and white. The 1 to 2 inch flowers are lightly fragrant. Use lots of peat or compost for early spring planting. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent sweet pea pests. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom.
