Be Creative when Painting Boys Room Murals
A bit of paint and some imagination are all you need to turn a plain bedroom into a boy’s dream den. Instead of just being somewhere to sleep, a boy’s bedroom can be a place that reflects his interests and will be the envy of all his friends.
There are many ways to transform a boy’s room into his personal domain, depending on how much you want to spend and how much time you have. You can create a themed room that recreates the environment of his choice in great detail or you can use paint in clever ways to add special theme accents that any boy will love. As well as using faux painting techniques and murals you can also make the most of some of the novelty paints that are on the market today.
Total Transformation
At the ambitious end of the scale, you can use faux painting and trompe l’oeil techniques to create another world in the confines of an ordinary room. Just make sure that he really likes it, because if you go to this amount of effort, you won’t want to redo it in six months time! Some of the possibilities are:
* Rooms from the past. Faux masonry and architectural features on the walls can create a room from yesteryear, perhaps something straight out of Harry Potter’s world.
* Underwater worlds. A mural that simulates the view from a ship or submarine’s porthole, giving views of fabulous marine life, will appeal to some boys.
* The past. With faux masonry and stonework, a room can become something out of an ancient castle.
* The future. A spaceship or futuristic space pod interior can easily be simulated using paint.
Murals don’t have to resemble framed pictures. For the total environment look, consider extending your paintwork to cover parts of the floor and ceiling, and include doors in your design.
Ideas for Themes
Whatever a boy is interested in will provide inspiration for a theme. You can find ideas everywhere. A favorite film could inspire a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ look or a room populated by much-loved cartoon characters. From baseball to pinball, sports and hobbies can be a springboard for ideas. A sport’s team’s colors and mascots can provide you with a basic color scheme.
Fun Paints
For most mural paintings acrylic and latex paints are effective and easy to use. Novelty paints, of which there is a variety on the market, can add a fun finishing touch to a boy’s room. To cater to a boy’s creativity, a wall of green chalkboard paint will allow your son to express himself on the walls without getting into trouble!
You can provide a boy with endless hours of wonder with fluorescent paints that glow in the dark after lights out. As well as being ideal for creating starry skies on ceilings, fluorescent paints can be fun on walls and in murals. Invisible by day, they are available in a range of different colors. Importantly, today’s products are also non-toxic.
Painted murals offer all sorts of possibilities for decorating boy’s rooms, whether you want to add a few fun touches or create a whole new environment.
