The whole process of growing and caring for a tree are already very challenging. The even harder part is that from the start, you should be able to choose which kind do you want. You will need to pick from a variety of attributes like the type of fruit, the size and the like. The size of trees vary in three: the dwarf, the semi-dwarf and the standard. Your pick will have to affect your whole growing experience like how much work you need to put in and the abundance of the rewards that you can get from it.

If you have a limited amount of open space, dwarf trees are the right choice since they take up very minimal space of an eight-foot diameter plot of land. Despite the small space that they need, they grow fruits which are the same size as standard trees. Their petite size also allows them to be harvested easier than the taller trees. Fruit-bearing dwarf trees; however, do not live as long as the standard trees. They grow fruits after 3-5 years; thus, it becomes highly necessary that you check on how old the tree is before you make a purchase.

The sem-dwarf trees are medium in size. They eat up 15 feet of land diameter and grow as low as ten feet to as high as sixteen feet. To keep them from growing really tall, make sure that you prune them once every year. Note that there are times that dwarf trees do bear very limited fruits or none at all during their off season but they are bound to produce hundreds when during their prime. Such trees are easier to maintain. Their fruits can be harvested easily as well as compared to normal ones.

The standard sized trees need more space than the smaller varieties. They are also more difficult to manage and their fruits are harder to harvest. The absence of a once-a-year pruning can make them grow to as tall as thirty feet. If you are after a good shade and plenty of fruits, then this kind of tree might be the perfect pick for you. They will need years before they finally reach their full height; however, you can start bearing fruits between their third and fifth year.

Perhaps the best type of tree to purchase is one which grows well in your area and carries fruits. Local fruit trees usually need less attention and grows best.If you want to make your tree-growing more exciting, you can also choose to grow the more exotic ones. Some of this kind may have a hard time surviving in your area though so you might as well check it right away and you should be ready to dedicate enough time and commitment.

Another consideration to take note if your type of soil. Some trees grow better in dry soil while others thrive in damp ones. For instance, if it rains a lot in your area, you might as well plant a plum tree. Otherwise, you can consider planting a plum or an apple. Before you make your choice, it is highly advised that you consult with a gardening guru to find out which types thrive better in your area.

Keep these things in mind as well – the height of the tree from the ground, the length of the stem, the condition of the roots which support the tree, how straight the tree stands are, if the branches are properly evened out and lastly, its sturdiness. Pick your choice very carefully. This will ensure that you choose only the best variety which will provide you with the most satisfying growing experience.
