Burnet Salad

The Burnet Salad, 'Peterium sanguisorba', has refreshing, light cucumber flavored leaves that will add flavor to salads, soups, and cool summer drinks all year long. Burnet Salad is a hardy perennial that is great for novice gardeners and gourmets. The attractive plant looks like rustic maiden hair fern and can be planted in rock gardens, flower beds, and containers. The leaves can be chopped and added to butter for a gourmet spread. If protected, Burnet Salad will produce tasty, green leaves even in cold climate winters. Burnet is a wonderful container plant and an attractive ornamental with delicate round, pink flowers. Plant 2 weeks before the average last frost date. In mild climates, Burnet can be seeded in the fall. Burnet will grow in just about any soil and actually prefers and tastes best in poor, dry soils. Soil also must be well drained. Keep flower stalks pruned for the best tasting foliage. ... additional info

Sweet Pea - Pastel Sunset The Sweet Pea Pastel Sunset, 'Lathyrus odoratus', is an artist's palette of soft shades, including cream, almond, pink, lavender and white. The 1 to 2 inch flowers are lightly fragrant. The sweet peas bloom in the spring and the duration of blooming depends on the weather. The plants stop blooming once the weather warms up. They will generally bloom 3 to 5 weeks. A key element in successful growing of the Sweet Pea Pastel Sunset is very early planting. The sweet pea prefers deep, rich, fertile soil. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom. They are used for cut flowers, ground cover, fence and wall covering, and in large pots.
