Hollyhock - Chater's Red
The Chater's Red Hollyhock, 'Alcea rosea', has a large ruffled ball-shaped red flower. The Hollyhock family is made up of a rather large group that exhibits tall stature (4-6') and is biennial in nature. Although they are short lived, they reseed themselves. The large blooms of 'Chater's Mix Hollyhock' flower in the summer months. Alcea is a wonderful plant near the back of the border, working great along walls or fences. Evening Primrose - Glowing Magenta The Evening Primrose, Glowing Magenta, 'Oenothera kunthiana', is a new Oenothera unlike any other. The deep pink flowers stand out against its deep green foliage. It has a plant height of 6” and a spread of 5-10”. ‘Glowing Magenta’ is unusually compact for its species and has an extremely long flowering time, (June to September. ) Oenothera requires full sun and needs a good drainage site. Try planting ‘Glowing Magenta’ with Salvia, Achillea or Columbine. For a wonderful sun ground cover, one will not want to leave ‘Glowing Magenta’ out of their garden. |
