Hosta - Sum and Substance

The Hosta Sum and Substance, 'Hosta', has large, rounded leaves with heavy puckering. This Hosta is slug resistant and a vigorous grower. The lavender flowers bloom from July to August, however, Hosta’s are not known for their flowers. With a plant height of 36” and a spread of 60”, Hosta’s provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage. Hosta ‘Sum and Substance’ needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained location. ‘Sum and Substance’ does require some sun to enhance its golden color. ‘Sum and Substance’ was named Hosta of the Year in 2004, and one can see why. The flowers are on 50” scapes, making it one of a kind. This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions, tubs and patio pots, and is one of the most popular landscapeplants. Dianthus - Fire Star The Dianthus Fire Star, Dianthus 'Fire Star' (PPAF), has vibrant red flowers with a dark red eye with evergreen grey-green foliage. This plant blooms the best in the early summer however will rebloom in the fall if deadheaded. It is truly a great addition to any perennial garden and is a favorite as a border plant or in rock gardens.
