Hosta - Sum and Substance

The Hosta Sum and Substance, 'Hosta', has large, rounded leaves with heavy puckering. This Hosta is slug resistant and a vigorous grower. The lavender flowers bloom from July to August, however, Hosta’s are not known for their flowers. With a plant height of 36” and a spread of 60”, Hosta’s provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage. Hosta ‘Sum and Substance’ needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained location. ‘Sum and Substance’ does require some sun to enhance its golden color. ‘Sum and Substance’ was named Hosta of the Year in 2004, and one can see why.
