Hosta - Whirlwind
The Hosta Whirlwind, 'Hosta', has upright pointed leaves that are twisted and folded. The creamy yellow to white centers and dark green margins give ‘Whirlwind’ its name. The lavender flowers bloom from July to August, however, Hosta’s are not known for their flowers. With a plant height of 24” and a spread of 36”, Hosta’s provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage. Hosta ‘Whirlwind’ needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained area. Lungwort - High Contrast The Lungwort High Contrast, 'Pulmonaria', also known as Bethlehem Sage, is a great ground cover for any shady area, helping to lighten up parts of the garden. The green foliage is wavy, spear-shaped and speckled with silver, not to mention mildew resistant. The large pink flowers fade to blue. ‘High Contrast’ has a plant height of 18” and a spread of 18-23”. ‘High Contrast’ needs to be planted in a fully shaded area with well-drained soil. It is a wonderful contrast with hostas, under shrubs and along paths. ‘High Contrast’ is a vigorous grower and is resistant to slugs. This plant is great for a first time gardener. PPAF. |
