Hydrangea - Endless SummerŪ The Original

Endless SummerŪ The Original Bigleaf Hydrangea, Hydrangea macrophylla 'Bailmer' (PP15,298), has the unique ability to bloom on both old and new wood, ensuring consistent flowering year after year. The big mop-head type blooms, up to 8" in diameter, are pink or blue depending on soil pH. Use aluminum sulfate to change alkaline soil to acid and make blooms bluer, or add lime to the soil to make the flowers pinker (begin soil treatments well in advance of flowering, as in late autumn or early spring). Large, dark green foliage adds to this showy summer bloomer and blooms through the summer and fall every year. This one has the ability to bloom as far north as Minnesota (maybe much further). This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies and/or birds. It requires consistently moist soil; do not let dry out between waterings The flowers are good for cutting and drying. Endless Summer prefers full sun and grows 3 to 5 feet in height and width. ... more info

Chokeberry - Black It displays clusters of 5-petaled, white flowers in spring which are followed in early autumn by blackish purple, blueberry-sized fruits which usually do not persist into winter. Lustrous, dark green foliage turns an attractive purplish red in autumn. Although technically edible, the fruits are extremely tart and bitter, and are not recommended for eating off the bush. Attractive fall color and fruit give this shrub good ornamental value for a shrub border. Its ability to withstand wet conditions makes it suitable for growing along ponds, streams or water gardens. Easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Tolerant of wide range of soils. Spreads by root suckers to form colonies.
