Lily - Blackout (Asiatic Lily)
The Asiatic Lily Blackout, 'Lilum ‘Blackout’, has extremely dark red, almost black, flowers that produces 4-5 flowers per stem. The dark green foliage makes a great contrast with its flower color. ‘Blackout’ has a plant height of 36” and is one of the newest Lily’s on the market today. Cutting the pollen off the middle of the flower, not letting it touch the flower, will increase the bloom time on Lily’s. Blooming in mid to late June, ‘Blackout’ should be planted in full sun and in a well drained soil. Mullein - Copper Rose The Verbascum Copper Rose, 'Verbascum hybridum', also known as Mullein, has masses of silky blooms that range in color from apricot to rose to copper, making it different from the rest. The foliage is soft and silver, which adds contrast to the flower color. ‘Copper Rose’ has a plant height of 3-4’ and a plant spread of 1-2’ and blooms from late spring into summer. Removing spent flowers to encourage additional bloom time. Verbascum will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions but must have good drainage or it could be fatal. ‘Copper Rose’ can be planted in rocky slopes to add color, as a border plant or in cottage gardens. |
