The Onion Red Burgermaster, 'Allium cepa (Hybrid)', has a sweet taste that make burgers and sandwiches complete when they have a slice of this onion. The Red Burgermaster has bright red, globe shaped onions with very attractive, crisp red and white flesh. They are also great in salads and thousands of other dishes where sweet, mild onions are a must. The Red Burgermaster onion should be planted in the early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Because the size of the bulb is directly related to how big the foliage gets, it is recommended to start the Walla Walla inside 8 to 12 weeks before last frost date. Onions prefer light well drained soil and with lots of organic matter. They should be kept evenly moist and not allowed to dry out. It is very important to keep onions weeded. The leaves can be harvested from late spring continuing all the way to the first frost. It will also tolerate partial shade. Swiss Chard is actually a beet without the beet. instead of growing beets, the plant grows wide, dark green, heavily crumpled leaves that are very tasty. In warm climates, plant in late summer for fall/winter crop.
