Backyard Garden perennials

Penstemon - Prairie Dusk

The Penstemon ‘Prairie Dusk’, Penstemon barbatus, has tall vivid purple tubular blooms and dark green leathery foliage. Blooming in early summer, it has a plant height of 30” and a spread of 12-18”. The foliage on ‘Prairie Dusk’ is beautiful all year long. It is best to plant Penstemon in a full sun location, having a moist, well-drained area. Being drought tolerant, ‘Prairie Dusk’ looks great in a perennial border, in a naturalized setting or for cuttings. Hummingbirds and butterflies love this perennial, not to mention being deer resistant. ... get more information

Peony - Red The Red Peony, Paeonia lactiflora. Although there are many Peonies on the market in this day and age, at this time we have chosen unnamed varieties, simply pink, red and white. Peonies are one of the best cut flowers and are often used in the Midwest to decorate gravesites on Memorial Day. All of our peonies are widely adaptable to most soils across the country. They bloom in mid spring and have very large, colorful blooms that stand out in the spring garden. Peonies can handle dry to moist sites, and do best in full sun but can handle some light shade. Often thought of a plant used on the farm or out in the country, bring a little bit of that country feeling to your garden. Our red peony is a very dark flowering selection. It is really a nice contrast when planted with the white peony. It also looks good in mass. It is not uncommon to see peonies planted along the driveway or lane in a mass.
