Backyard Garden perennials

Spiderwort - Satin Doll

The Spiderwort Satin Doll, 'Tradescantia andersoniana', has compact and upright green foliage with large pink flowers. The flowers open for one day but new blooms appear from June to October. With a plant height of 12-15” and a spread of 18-24”, it is one that should not be missed. The contrast of the flower color and foliage make it a definite eye catcher. Deadhead after the first flowering to prolong its blooming time. Tradescantia ‘Satin Doll’ should be planted in a sunny area, but will tolerate some morning shade, with well-drained soil. It will tolerate damp soil but should not be over watered. ‘Satin Doll’ mixes beautifully with wild and naturalistic woodlands, in any perennial bed or as a border plant and attracts butterflies. Try ‘Satin Doll’ with Geranium ‘Johnson’s Blue’ or Alchemilla ‘Lady’s Mantle’. PPAF. ... get more information

Rose Campion - Jenny The Lychnis Jenny, 'Lychniscoronaria', a Blooms of Bressingham plant, is an upright perennial with woolly green foliage. The large fluffy pink flowers double and white markings run into the petals. ‘Jenny’ is a definite improvement from other Lychnis. The flower is larger, sterile and more refined. ‘Jenny’ has a plant height of 30” and 18” spread. The 1 ˝ inch blooms are beautiful and they bloom from May to September. If cut back, they will bloom longer. ‘Jenny’ should be planted in full sun to light shade, but does require moisture and free-draining soil. Lychnis is deer resistant and a great perennial for mass plantings or at the back of a border.
