Spiderwort - Shimmer Mixed

Backyard Garden perennials

Spiderwort - Shimmer Mixed

The Spiderwort Shimmer Mixed, 'Tradescantia andersoniana', has compact and upright green foliage with large pink, lilac, blue, rose, mauve and occasional white flowers. The flowers open for one day but new blooms appear from June to October. With a plant height of 30” and a spread of 24-36”, it is one that should not be missed. The contrast of the flower color and foliage make it a definite eye catcher. Deadhead after the first flowering to prolong its blooming time. Tradescantia ‘Shimmer Mixed’ should be planted in a sunny area, but they will tolerate some morning shade, with well-drained soil. It will tolerate damp soil but should not be over watered. ‘Shimmer Mixed’ mixes beautifully with wild and naturalistic woodlands, in any perennial bed or as a border plant and attracts butterflies. Try ‘Shimmer Mixed’ with Geranium ‘Johnson’s Blue’ or Alchemilla ‘Lady’s Mantle’. PPAF. ... additional information

Daylily - Storm of the Century The Daylily Storm of the Century, Hemerocallis 'Storm of the Century' (Carr, '00), has almost 6 inch ruffled blooms that are purple with a gold edge and a yellow and green throat on green foilage. Storm of the Centure will bloom mid-season and is a constant rebloomer. It can survive harsh conditions that many other plants can not and prefers full sun for the best performance. Daylilies are some of the easiest plants to grow and are a good choice for any gardener. They will grow in almost any soil and handle drought to wet soil conditions. Use for stand alone plantings, edging, in borders or in mixed containers and tubs.
