Vinca - Little Pinkie

The Vinca Little Pinkie, 'Catharanthus roseus', is the perfect plant for that really hot and dry location. Little Pinkie Vincas are especially useful for the southern or desert climates or hard to maintain hot spots near a concrete or reflecting wall. It blooms best when other plants are hurting from the heat. Little Pinkies can be grown as a perennial in frost free winter areas. It readily reseeds itself and is very drought tolerant. The flowers are 1 to 1/2 inch phlox- like pink blooms with a dark center. Little Pinkie Vinca should be planted in well drained soils and in full sun or very light shade. This low maintenance plant prefers regular waterings in sunny hot locations. Plant this Vinca in the spring after the last average frost date. They do best in slightly alkaline to very acid soils. Plant in the spring, after the last average frost date or later into the spring when soil temperatures are warmer.
